VOID WARRANTY POLICY

 

 

 

Maxtor’s void warranty policy stipulates that all customers must handle the products with care, to minimise damage or unnecessary failures. Drives received from customers exhibiting any of the following conditions are NOT eligible for in warranty service.

 

 

CHECK PACKAGING

 

Inadequate packaging

 Some examples are: multiple drives packed into a single box without separators to prevent contact with adjacent drives; drives packed in envelopes or boxes without protective cushioning; and drives packed without electro static protective bags.

 

CHECK PCBA

 

PCB screw missing:

 

Fixing screws hold the circuit board to the chassis of the drive. Screws should be present and flush.

 

PCB mismatch:

 

The PCB board should match the drive it is attached to.

 

PCB burnt/damaged:

 

·         Components should not show any evidence of  burning or mishandling.

·         There should be no evidence of broken or missing components.

·         PCB should have no scratches

·         All solder joints should be in pristine condition , not cut, melted, or otherwise physically damaged

·         Plastic interface connector should not be cracked , broken or deformed

·         Plastic interface should have no bent pins

·         Power connector should not be cracked or broken or have bent pins

·         There should be no foreign substances on the PCB

·         Motor wires should not be cut or damaged

·         PCB should not be warped or lifted from HDA

 

 

CHECK SIDES

 

Base cast damage:

 

·         Sides should not be bent, scratched, or visibly deformed

 

Seal missing/damaged:

 

·         Clockhead seal(round seal on right side) should be firmly in place with no

·         Evidence of tampering

·         EMI Tape (silver, covers end of top cover and HDD) should be in place, not cut, missing or show evidence of tampering

CHECK TOP COVER

 

Screw seals punched:

·         Top cover screws must be flush and tight, seals over disk-pack screw and actuator screw in centre top cover must be in place with no evidence of tampering.

 

Top cover bent:

·         Corners should be free of any dents, deep scratches, bending or deformation

·         Screw holes should not be visibly stripped/damaged

·         Top cover as seen from side should not be warped, dented, or otherwise deformed

 

Gasket Damage:

·         Top cover dampener must be securely in place with no evidence of prying or separation.

 

 

Writing on label/defaced:

·         Top cover label should be in place with no peeling, mutilation, or obscuring damage.

·         Serial number label should be in place, with no tampering, obscuring of number

 

Cover screws missing:

·         Top cover screws must be flush and tight, seals over disk-pack screw and actuator screw in centre top cover must be in place with no evidence of tampering
